The Grand Union '65-69
Lonnie Napier and I met in Junior High School and, along with John Palmer on Bass and Robert Strickland on Drums, formed our first band, The Chancellors. This name proved to be too dorkey, even for us. When coupled with the gray, Glen Plaid 3-piece suits we wore, it was just too much. We took our cue from the times, changed our name to The Grand Union, and wore whatever the heck we felt like (including the bizarre yet contemporary period selections seen here). Lonnie and I had matching St. George, red and black sunburst guitars with wing-wang bars that totally de-tuned the instruments, and matching Sears Silvertone twin 12 amps which we had greatly improved by covering the grill cloth with the Union Jack and exchanging the red pilot lights for much cooler green ones. Did we sound any better...? Nah, but they looked GREAT! Lonnie plays the cool acoustic and the sizzlin' electric leads in Bottom Feeder on Phanta Morgana. I'm pretty sure he wasn't using the St. George.

"Got my Nehru jacket, got my beads and shades. I'm in a band and I'm 15; it just doesn't get any better than this!"

Lonnie whips the St. George into shape!

"Take that, paparazzi scum!"

"Whaddya mean, yours goes to eleven?"
